Who Thought Of It 2.0: The Reboot

Who Thought Of It 2.0: The Reboot

A few months ago, I just stopped publishing anything on Who Thought Of It. Work went downhill, my motivation followed, and I mostly lost interest.

I launched this blog thinking that the subject, writing about who invented what would be fun, and I needed to practice writing in English–as it is not my first language. It was a personal challenge and I have to admit that if my writing skills could be better, I made serious progress.

What was the First Horror Movie?

What was the First Horror Movie?

It’s Spooktober! As usual, I’m trying to watch more horror movies during October than I do the rest of the year. I never stop watching this kind of movie, but it’s a tradition, so I do my best to put more thrills on the screens.

Anyway, I mixed classics and recent releases, and I was searching for some older titles to have different viewing experiences. You read the title of the article, and you know where this led me:

What Was the First National Park?

What Was the First National Park?

Having been a reader of the National Geographic Magazine for many years, I’ve always been intrigued by the American National Parks. Maybe one day I’ll come to this part of the world and explore them. In the meantime, I thought of writing about their creation!

What Was the First National Park in America?

The answer is Yellowstone. It’s the most famous, and not because of that Kevin Costner TV show, or maybe it is now, that would be sad.

Who Invented Astrology?

Who Invented Astrology?

I am a Sagittarius. I don’t know what that could mean, except that I was born between November 22 and December 21. That said, for some who are into astrology, it seems to have more meaning and I was curious to know where does that came from. So, I looked into it:

Who created Astrology?

According to Merriam-Webster, “Astrology is the divination of the supposed influences of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects.” Its history spans thousands of years, beginning in ancient Mesopotamia and continuing until the present day. It is not anything new.

The history of astrology can be traced back to the cradle of civilization, Mesopotamia, in the 3rd millennium BC. In these ancient times, astrology was intimately entwined with astronomy, and the distinction between the two disciplines was blurred. The celestial bodies, including stars and planets, were seen as potent forces that could influence earthly affairs and human lives.

Who Invented Television?

Who Invented Television?

Some time ago, I wrote about Philo Farnsworth, a man who played a big role in the development of the television set. That’s when I thought it would be a good idea to complement this article with a history of the creation of television. Now, it’s time to do exactly that.

Who Created Television?

It’s not possible to give just one name to answer this question. The invention of television was a long process, the development of different ideas and the creation of new technology that led to the result we now know.

Who Invented the Etch A Sketch?

Who Invented the Etch A Sketch?

I recently learned that the Etch A Sketch toy had been created by a Frenchman. If you want to know, in France, we call it “l’Écran magique” (the magic screen). As I wanted to know a bit more about that, I started researching:

Who Created the Etch A Sketch?

A French electrician employed by Lincrusta Co. named André Cassagnes was the mind behind the Etch A Sketch. He was then working at a factory in a northern Paris neighborhood where is was not creating toys.

Who Invented the Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Who Invented the Chocolate Chip Cookie?

I love classic recipes, great ones that work every time. For the brownies, I love Katherine Hepburn’s, it’s always a success. After multiple disappointing attempts with chocolate chip cookies, I started to go back to the source. Here are my findings:

Who created the Chocolate Chip Cookie?

It turns out that the story of the creation of the Chocolate Chip Cookie is pretty well-known. In fact, it’s one that is so perfectly cooked that it seems that it is somewhat fake. I’m pretty sure it’s more fiction than reality, but it is what we’ve got.

Who Invented the Vinyl Record?

Who Invented the Vinyl Record?

A recent article from the Guardian recently stated that, even if the numbers are far behind streaming, obviously, the vinyl sales in the US are up 21.7% for the first half of 2023. They have been growing for a few years now to a really high point. It’s something I don’t really understand as the price is too high for me—I stick to CDs, and if you want to know, I’m not alone as the sales for them don’t decline either. Anyway, reading that led me to a pretty obvious question:

Who created the Vinyl Record?

In the year 1857, a French inventor by the name of Edouard-Leon Scott created a sound recording device known as the Phonautograph. The contraption utilized a vibrating pen to represent sounds on small paper discs graphically. Initially created to understand sound characteristics better, it wasn’t until Thomas Edison’s interest that sound recording truly began.

Who Invented the Treadmill?

Who Invented the Treadmill?

I recently realized that the first time the superhero The Flash used his famous cosmic treadmill was in a comic book published in 1961. Just a fun fact. The thing is, as I never really gave a thought about the treadmill, I didn’t know how old this apparatus was. This naturally led me to look into…

Who Created the Treadmill?

The history of the treadmill started a long, long, time ago. Around 4000 years ago. Treadmills were power sources in antiquity as they were designed to harness human and animal power for various purposes, primarily lifting heavy loads and grinding grain.

When Did the First Marathon Take Place?

When Did the First Marathon Take Place?

I was reading in the local news about a half-marathon that took place the previous weekend. I didn’t know they ran only half the distance. In fact, I don’t even know why they run that long. Well, it was time for me to get educated on the subject!

What was the First Marathon?

Looking at the history of the race, it seems that there’s a layer of a myth that has been added to the real story. Let’s start with the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens—more about the revival of the Olympics in this article.

What Was the First Gaming Console Ever Made?

While researching my article about the first video game, I naturally stumbled upon the history of gaming consoles. Who Invented the Electric Stove?

Who Invented the Electric Stove?

I recently wrote about the invention of the toaster. In this article, I wrote about the toaster coming from the Copeman Electric Stove Company. I realized that I didn’t cover the invention of the electric stove and thought it would be a good companion article. So, here we go.

Who Created the Electric Stove?

From fire to gas, stoves were not a new invention when electricity came into play. In fact, it wasn’t until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that the concept of electric stoves started to gain traction. Multiple inventors worked on different types of stoves. In fact, the story of the electric stove is mostly one of patents.
